Between 2021 and 2023, we collaborated with six VBC provincial coaches and logged 120 hours of coach development work.
Reflecting on the partnership in 2023 as one of the original six coaches, Brent Hall said: “Doesn’t every coach want a coach? I’ve done a lot of coach education, most of which has been fantastic, but taking a course always needs more depth of conversation than a personalized approach contains. Glenn’s work is the single best professional development opportunity available. My work with him consisted of 1-on-1 discussions where he helped me evaluate challenges and develop concrete plans for addressing them. They have been instrumental in improving my coaching habits because they address my specific needs; I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from Glenn.”
Kelvin Ma was another of this initial cohort. Now the current technical director at VBC, Kelvin seeks to provide a development opportunity for the new provincial coaches similar to the successful one he experienced.
At COACH+, work is underway to realize Kelvin’s admirable goal of using a long-term, quad approach to create real change and build the provincial coaches and the program at VBC.
We will offer unique, innovative webinars to each of the three provincial teams – 15U, 16U, and 18U – reaching 86 coaches.
Some of our favourite and most meaningful work is one-on-one time with coaches, getting into the nitty-gritty aspects of the role and how life can affect it. We’re looking forward to spending time with the six 18U coaches – building individual plans, supporting them through challenges, addressing blind spots, and highlighting their strengths!
We applaud VBC for consistently investing in their coaches and Kelvin for cultivating a long-term vision to lead this program and its members to success. Thank you for inviting us to be part of it.
