Wheelchair Rugby Canada and COACH+ Launch Women’s Mentorship and National Coach Support

Jun 24, 2025

We’re eager to announce that we’ve teamed up with Wheelchair Rugby Canada (WRC) on two exciting initiatives. Together, we’ve designed projects to support emerging leaders and national staff.

COACH+ is proud to lead the design and delivery of WRC’s first Women in Coaching Mentorship Program where we’ll support a small group of women coaches. This program will help lay the foundation for greater participation and performance among athletes in the Canadian wheelchair rugby community; we’re honoured to be part of it.

CEO of Wheelchair Rugby Canada, Paul Hunter, shares his enthusiasm for the upcoming program: “I’m thrilled about our partnership with COACH+ to mentor three female wheelchair rugby coaches. At WRC, we deeply value the pivotal role coaches play in our sport. This initiative not only provides essential support for their growth and development but also strengthens our sport’s foundation. COACH+ has a stellar track record of empowering coaches, and we’re confident this collaboration will drive positive change, benefiting both individuals and the broader wheelchair rugby community.”

At the same time, COACH+ will support WRC’s new National Head Coach, Trevor Hirschfield as he transitions into his role with a custom development and support plan. Over nine months, we’ll work together to create a personalized coaching dashboard that brings clarity to his leadership and progress. This kind of tailored, coach-centered approach reflects everything we value most at COACH+, and it’s motivating to collaborate with an organization that shares this vision.

These projects give us the opportunity to do what we’re built for and create an impact in a sport that nurtures coach and athlete development.

We’re grateful to WRC for trusting us at COACH+ to guide these initiatives, and we’re looking forward to the meaningful, lasting change this partnership will create in wheelchair rugby.
